Relationships

Relationships can be deeply meaningful, but they also bring challenges that can be difficult to navigate. Whether you’re working through conflict, exploring recurring patterns, or hoping to feel more connected to your partner, therapy offers a space to better understand yourself and how you show up in your relationships.

At Relational Creatures, we offer a supportive, judgment-free space to explore your experiences, understand how past relationships shape your present, and develop new means for connection.

Signs you may benefit from relationship support

You're experiencing recurring conflict: You may find yourself having the same arguments, struggling to communicate effectively, or feeling misunderstood by someone important to you. Therapy can help you explore these patterns and develop healthier ways to express your needs.

You're navigating trust or relationship changes: Experiences such as betrayal, a breakup, changes in commitment, or uncertainty about the future can bring up complicated emotions. Therapy provides space to process these experiences and consider what moving forward might look like for you

You're noticing patterns in your relationships: You may find yourself falling into similar dynamics across relationships, feeling anxious about connection, or struggling to feel secure with others. Exploring these patterns can help you better understand yourself and how you relate to others.

You're trying to understand what you want: Whether you're questioning a relationship, considering a major decision, or trying to reconnect with yourself within a partnership, therapy can help you explore your values, needs, and priorities without pressure to reach a particular outcome.

Your relationships are affecting your emotional well-being: Relationship stress can contribute to anxiety, sadness, self-doubt, and feeling overwhelmed. Individual therapy can help you process these emotions and develop strategies to care for yourself through difficult experiences.

Beginning therapy with Relational Creatures Psychotherapy is easy and requires no referral. You can book a complimentary consultation call here.

Your initial session will be 75-90 minutes long. During this first appointment, your therapist will ask questions to better understand you and your areas of struggle. This is known as an initial assessment. The assessment phase can last anywhere from 1-3 appointments, and it is critical. It helps the therapist understand your goals and develop a treatment plan to support you in achieving them.

After the assessment is complete, treatment begins!

In the treatment phase, you will be introduced to a variety of skills to practice and implement to better manage your symptoms. Most people will have a therapy session every 1-2 weeks, and we recommend this cadence for optimal treatment. Effective therapy typically takes somewhere between six to twelve appointments (for some more, others less).

Many choose to continue therapy once formal treatment is complete. This is referred to as maintenance. People who do this typically have an appointment once every 6-8 weeks. This is not a requirement and is a matter of personal choice.

Your first appointment will be 75-90 minutes long. Subsequent appointments are generally 1 hour or 90 minutes.

What does therapy offer?

Therapy provides an opportunity to explore how your experiences have shaped the way you relate to yourself and others. Rather than viewing your relationship patterns as something that is wrong with you, we can work to understand them and the needs they may be trying to protect. Therapy can help you to:

  • Recognize your attachment patterns and how they show up in relationships.

  • Navigate conflict and challenges with communication

  • Develop greater self-trust and confidence in expressing your needs.

  • Practice setting boundaries while remaining connected to others.

  • Build tolerance for vulnerability and emotional intimacy.

  • Develop more secure, flexible, and fulfilling ways of relating.

Therapy offers a supportive space to move at your own pace, develop self-awareness, and practice new ways of connecting. We welcome partners to join sessions whenever it feels helpful and appropriate for everyone involved.
